Introduction
My issue is youth bulling. The reason for me choosing this topic is because I have seen so many boys and girls get hurt just because of who they are. These students don’t realize the things they do to these young kids. The youth see bullying as something that makes others laugh or make them like them but they don’t know how the other kid that is getting bullied is feeling. This issue matters to me because these young kids get hurt and they tend to throw their lives away. What I mean is that they either cut themselves or they take actions that involve putting their lives in danger, even resulting in death. Having to know these things hurt me in a way because people don’t do anything about bullying when they see it. My reason to pick this project is because I want to change people’s reactions for when the see bullying, and convince them that if they do not take action they are part of the problem.
This is an important topic for me because I have seen bullying in my life for when I entered in my freshman year of high school in the year 2010. When I was a freshman there was this boy who would walk the hallways by himself and really close to the walls. He would not talk to anyone or he would not stop even to use the washroom; he would walk straight to class, and be on his own. Sadly, even when I would see him I myself would mock him and make fun of him as he passed by. I would even give him nicknames because I had thought he was a mentally sick boy. During all of my freshman and sophomore year I went on mocking until my junior year came. He would never respond.
During my junior year he was in Chemistry class and he was in my table sitting down with me. We didn’t talk at all until one day came and we spoke. When we had a conversation he was nervous and scared to talk to me as if I where to hurt him. We talked and then I realized what I was doing and saw that he was no different than me. He was a smart intelligent person. As time passed by, we would talk and talk more and then this year my senior year he shared out something in front of my class. I will not say all of what he shared that day, but what stood out to me was how he spoke about being bullied during his whole elementary school. He shared that he could not talk to anyone or trust anyone because of what he went through. I felt so bad and so guilty for saying the things I said to and about him. I wish I could go back into time and change the way I was and actually become friends with him.
From that moment on, I’ve thought about how I can change the minds of youth. I really hope to accomplish to change the way youth see others who appear to be different than them; change their thought of mind and point of view about the things the do or say to others. I want to be able to accomplish those things because sometimes kids don’t know who they are hurting or they are messing with. The youth are not the same anymore. I see more kids getting made fun of because they like different things or they act differently. Now while these kids are getting made fun of, the other kids are just standing by and watching these kids get made fun at and letting them get made fun of. I also want to be able to change that and be able to encourage the youth to actually stand up for those kids who are getting laughed at.
I want to prove that the comments and looks that youth make to one another can really affect the targets mentally and ultimately, physically. My argument for this project is to get those by stander actually stand up for some one who is being bullied. Make that bully stop and do something about the bullying.
