Here I go walking into my freshman year of high school and I am walking into a new building. Once I walk in I hear the principal say to my freshman class “good morning, welcome to Social Justice.” Throughout my four years of high school I have been hearing those two words and I never understood what they meant. So many different definitions I have heard from different people and didn’t understand what it meant. Here I am and a person asking me what is Social Justice? Now I can answer them because I have found my own definition.
Social justice is when people who will not stand down to anyone and will actually stand up for others and then stand up for themselves. Throughout my years in high school I have seen that so many times and actually done it myself. Now this is not easy to do just as it is easy to say. Many people struggle to show actually stand up for those people. So many youth are afraid to share out what is happening to them and when they go to an adult the hold themselves back from saying what actually happen to them. I have experienced this by having to stand up for my little brother. My little brother was being bullied in school and was afraid to share to my mom. When I saw him getting bullied he went inside and told my mom a whole different story. I had stepped in and told him to tell her what actually happened. He happened to tell her but yet struggled to stand up for himself. I had to take a stand for my little brother and make sure he was okay before I went to do my own things.
This is my fire. This is an argument I want to enforce because sometimes the parents are not aware of the things their children are going through. Parents don’t build their relationships with their children when they are young. That’s a problem because some parents don’t really take things seriously with their children. They need to understand that they are their parents and they need to know everything. There’s people out there who are not safe in this world. Also parents need to know how bad things are going on outside the world. A writer says “many parents don't think that bullying is as big a problem as bringing a weapon to school or drug use but its effects can be severe and long lasting” (Is bullying a big thing). Students are struggling in life because of this bullying that is happening. They are even staying home from school because of bullying, but yet parents don’t pay attention to those things.
This is related to social justice because the youth do not have the guts to stand up for themselves nor for others who are in the same situation. They let themselves get bullied and they go through the struggle. Sometimes people need to get involved and actually do something about the problem.
